Cork is a resilient and nearly impermeable organic material that is harvested from the Cork Oak Tree.   Cork is the bark of the tree and it is harvested for the first time when the tree is about 25 years old.   The tree is never cut down and since the cork will grow back it is considered a renewable resource.  Cork trees live to be about 200 years old.
